Boston calls up Kalish; designates Hermida for assignment

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Jeremy Hermida for assignment to make room on the 25-man roster for outfield prospect Ryan Kalish, who was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Kalish was immediately inserted into the starting lineup, batting eighth. He had a solid debut, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Boston's 5-4 comeback win over Detroit.
In the minors this season, the 22-year-old was batting .294 with a .381 on- base percentage to go with 13 homers and 47 RBI in 78 games.
Hermida was mired in an 0-for-17 slump in his first season with Boston following five with the Marlins. In 52 games for the Red Sox in 2010, Hermida batted just .203 with a .257 OBP, five homers and 27 RBI.
